Meet Our Founder
Dr. Wendy Johnson
President & Founder
Wendy Johnson is the President and Founder of MANAGING FROM AFAR® (MFA) and a leadership strategist focused on leadership development, workforce readiness, and organizational effectiveness. She has more than 20 years of experience in leadership, risk mitigation, continuous improvement, and organizational development. Wendy is known for helping leaders strengthen their decision-making, navigate complex organizational environments, and build high-performing teams that drive results.
Prior to founding MFA, Wendy held several senior leadership roles where she was responsible for assessing and restructuring human capital, right-sizing divisions, managing multi-site operations and multi-million-dollar budgets, and leading large academic and operational teams while ensuring adherence to compliance standards. She also oversaw staff appointments and implemented operational strategies that strengthened institutional performance. During her tenure, organizations maintained zero compliance sanctions while improving employee morale, operational efficiency, and overall productivity, results driven by her ability to implement strategic, risk-mitigating processes and strong leadership frameworks.
In addition to her executive leadership experience, Wendy has facilitated leadership and faculty training at numerous colleges, universities, and professional organizations, equipping leaders with practical strategies to strengthen leadership presence, manage teams effectively, and foster productive workplace cultures. Through her speaking engagements, workshops, and digital platforms, including her DrWendyTheStrategist leadership content, she regularly shares insights on leadership mindset, professional growth, workforce development, and strategic career advancement.
Wendy began her career as an accountant and has worked extensively across higher education and organizational leadership environments. She holds a BS in Accounting/Economics, an MBA, and a PhD in Administration and Management. She is the author of Managing from Afar: How to Navigate in a Remote Environment and the highly regarded book Missing in Action – Black Women in the Boardroom, which examines how the glass ceiling impacts Black professional women. Wendy has received numerous business and community accolades for her leadership and professional contributions.
